Controller Tester: Buttons & Stick Drift
Test an Xbox, PlayStation or any gamepad in the browser: every button, analogue triggers, stick drift and rumble.
Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Connect your controller and press any button.
Browsers only show a controller after a button press, for privacy. Works with Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro and most USB or Bluetooth gamepads.
How to test a controller
Connect the controller by USB or Bluetooth, open this page and press any button: browsers only show a controller after a button press. Press every button once; each turns green when it works and fills as you press it, so analogue triggers show how far they are pulled. Move each stick in full circles; the dot should reach the edge of its circle in every direction. If your controller has rumble, press Test rumble to feel both motors.
Stick drift test
Stick drift is when a game moves your character or camera although you are not touching the stick. Let go of both sticks and put the controller down. Each stick shows how far off centre it rests. A reading of 0.05 or less is normal; above 0.1 most games will notice it and the page marks it in red. Flick the stick a few times and let go again: a stick that returns to a different spot each time is worn. Cleaning around the base with isopropyl alcohol sometimes helps; a bigger dead zone setting in the game hides small drift.
Xbox, PlayStation and Switch controllers
Xbox controllers work by USB or Bluetooth in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. PS4 and PS5 controllers work in Chrome and Edge over USB or Bluetooth; to pair a DualSense, hold the PS and Create buttons until the light bar flashes. Switch Pro controllers usually work best in Chrome by USB. When the browser recognises the layout, button names are shown for both Xbox and PlayStation; otherwise you see numbered buttons, which still test fine.
Controller not detected
Press a button after the page has loaded; the browser waits for that. Close Steam, DS4Windows or other controller software, which can take over the controller. Try another USB cable, since many charging cables carry no data. On a Mac, Bluetooth controllers must be paired in System Settings → Bluetooth first. Safari supports fewer controllers than Chrome.
Rumble does not work
The Test rumble button only appears when the browser can drive the motors. Chrome and Edge support rumble on Xbox and PlayStation controllers; Firefox and Safari mostly do not. Over Bluetooth some controllers only rumble with their maker's driver installed. If the button is there and you feel nothing, check the controller's battery, since many turn rumble off when it is low.
