How to test your microphone

Click Start and allow the browser to use the microphone. Speak normally: the level bar should move and the waveform should wobble. Record five seconds and play it back to hear what others hear on a call. If you have more than one input, pick each from the list to find the one that works.

If nothing happens

Check that the right device is selected here and in your operating system's sound settings, that the mic is not muted (many headsets have a physical switch), and that no other app has exclusive use of it. On a laptop with an external headset, the OS often keeps using the internal mic.

Permission blocked

If you clicked Block earlier, the browser remembers it. Click the padlock or camera icon in the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, then reload.

Privacy

Audio is analysed inside this page to draw the meter. The optional five-second clip is kept in memory only, is never uploaded, and disappears when you close the tab.
