Speaker & Headphone Test
Play a tone in the left, right, or both channels and a 40 Hz to 16 kHz sweep to find a dead side or crackle.

Start at a low volume. Headphones make the left/right check obvious; laptop speakers less so.
Hear it only on one side when you press Left or Right: stereo is wired correctly. Hear both on a single-side test: the device is mono or the balance is centred in your OS. Silence: check the output device and mute switch.
Testing left and right
Press Left, then Right. With headphones you should hear each side alone; with laptop speakers the difference is subtler. If both play from one side, the balance is off in your OS sound settings or a channel of the cable or speaker has failed.
Frequency sweep
The eight-second sweep runs from 40 Hz bass up to 16 kHz treble. Small speakers go quiet below 100–150 Hz; most adults stop hearing somewhere between 14 and 17 kHz, which is normal. Use it to spot a crackling driver at a particular pitch.
Tones
Use the preset frequencies to check bass (60 Hz), voice (250–1000 Hz) and treble (4–10 kHz) separately. Keep the volume low at high frequencies.
Bluetooth and output device
If you hear nothing, check which output device is selected in your OS. Bluetooth headphones can be connected but not selected, and some sleep after a few minutes of silence.
