How to test your webcam
Click Start and allow camera access. You will see the live picture with its real resolution and frame rate, which is what a video call gets. Switch cameras if you have more than one, flip the mirror to see what others see, and save a snapshot to check focus and lighting.
Common problems
A black picture usually means another app (a meeting client, a virtual-camera tool) is holding the camera, or a privacy shutter is closed. A very dark picture is lighting: face a window or lamp rather than sitting in front of one. Low frame rates in dim rooms are normal; add light.
Resolution
The tool asks for the highest resolution the camera offers. Many built-in laptop cameras are 720p; 1080p external cameras look noticeably sharper on calls.

The video is displayed in this tab only. It is not recorded, stored, or sent anywhere. The snapshot is saved straight to your device.
