Small letters give the common sound (t त, d द, n न). Capitals give the hard ones (T ट, D ड, N ण). Two consonants together join only when Hindi usually joins them; pick a different spelling above if a word comes out wrong.
How to type in Hindi with an English keyboard
Write each word the way it sounds, in English letters, and the Hindi appears next to it: "namaste" gives नमस्ते, "aap kaise ho" gives आप कैसे हो, "dhanyavad" gives धन्यवाद. Use double letters for long vowels (aa आ, ee ई, oo ऊ), and capitals for the hard sounds (T ट, D ड, N ण). A full stop becomes the Hindi purna viram (।); turn that off with the checkbox if you want a plain dot.
When a word comes out wrong
English letters can be read more than one way, so the tool sometimes guesses wrong, for example पति against पती or करना against कर्ना. Tap the word in the Hindi box, or keep typing, and a row of other spellings appears; tap the right one. Your choice is saved in this browser and used every time you type that word again, so the tool gets better the more you use it.
Half letters and joined letters
Two consonants next to each other join only where Hindi usually joins them: "prem" gives प्रेम, "dost" gives दोस्त, "kya" gives क्या, but "hamko" gives हमको, not हम्को. An n before another consonant becomes the dot (ं), so "hindi" gives हिंदी; pick हिन्दी from the spellings if you prefer the half न.
Typing ड़, ढ़, ऋ and the nasal dot
Type R for ड़ ("paRhna" पढ़ना) and Rh for ढ़. Common words like लड़का, बड़ा and थोड़ा are already known, so "ladka" and "bada" come out right. Type M after a vowel for the dot (ं), ~ for the moon dot (ँ), H for visarga (ः), and RRi for ऋ. The table of tricky letters under the tool lists them all.
Using the Hindi text
Copy puts the Hindi on your clipboard, ready to paste into WhatsApp, Word, Google Docs, an email or a form. The WhatsApp button opens a chat with the text filled in. The text is ordinary Unicode Devanagari, the same as from a Hindi phone keyboard, so it works everywhere and is searchable.
Is it the same as a Hindi typing test for exams?
No. Government typing tests (SSC, courts, state services) expect the Inscript or Remington GAIL keyboard layout, where each key always types the same Hindi letter. This tool is phonetic, for writing Hindi quickly. Your text stays in this browser only; nothing you type is sent anywhere.
