Stay in for 10 years instead of 5 and the value becomes $20,016, that is $5,868 more with nothing extra invested.
One percent more, 8.0% instead of 7%, adds $712 over 5 years. Fees and fund choice matter about that much.

Lump sum and fixed deposit growth
A one-time investment grows to A = P(1 + r/n)^(nt): P is the amount, r the annual rate, n the compounding periods per year and t the years. Bank fixed deposits in India compound quarterly; many savings products compound monthly; bonds often pay yearly. Pick the frequency your product uses for an exact match with the bank's figure.
Doubling time
The result panel shows how long your money takes to double at the chosen rate, worked out exactly rather than with the rule of 72. At 7% it is just over 10 years; at 12% about 6 years. Halving the rate more than doubles the wait.
FD vs mutual fund lump sum
A fixed deposit gives a guaranteed rate, taxed as income each year. An equity fund can return more over five years or longer but can also fall in between. Use this page for both by changing the rate and compounding, and save each as a scenario to compare.
Premature withdrawal
Breaking a fixed deposit early usually means a lower rate for the period held plus a penalty of 0.5–1%. The figure here assumes the full term.
